Design / Build

Among the many services we offer, the most important is design. Design takes many forms, but fundamentally they're all rooted in the same thing: proper design isn't just about the beauty of plant placement, it's about understanding the plant materials themselves — knowing where in the yard a plant will thrive, how much light it requires, and how much water it will need.

Most important is understanding how the plant will grow. That's where the longevity of a project's beauty comes in. When a project is properly prepared and planted, the plants grow into the vision without overcrowding or hiding smaller plants from view. That keeps maintenance down — when plants max out at an appropriate height, there's less need to prune.

Lighting

Lighting is one of those small touches you never realized you wanted until you see it installed. It doesn't just light the space at night — it highlights the natural shape of plants and trees, and lets you enjoy your yard into the evening, whether you're relaxing alone or entertaining guests.

Lighting also adds a measure of security to your property. A well-lit yard has been shown to deter thieves by leaving fewer shadows for intruders to hide in, and it helps discourage pests like raccoons, opossums, and skunks, which tend to avoid lit yards.

Irrigation

Proper watering is an essential part of yard maintenance. A professionally installed irrigation system makes it virtually worry-free — making sure your plants get the water they need without over-watering. Over-watering can damage a plant's root system and contributes to weeds, fungi, and pests.

Irrigation products have improved a great deal over the years. They're designed to deliver water directly to a plant's drip zone and reduce water loss through evaporation.

Drainage

Drainage is possibly the most important part of landscape design, depending on where you live. Proper drainage helps prevent a whole host of problems, including damaged lawns and other plant materials, serious erosion, cracked foundations, and mosquitoes and other pests.

Rivas Landscape Group installs both French drains and general area drains, and we also provide grading services to help with runoff.

Scheduled Maintenance

Once your landscape installation is complete, a common concern is keeping the yard looking as fresh and neat as the day it was finished. We pride ourselves on knowing plant materials — not just the requirements of any individual plant, but its potential growth — which lets us design some of the most uniquely beautiful views possible while keeping them as low-maintenance as they can be.

Low maintenance doesn't mean no maintenance, though. Plants, shrubs, and trees of all kinds eventually need some type of care, whether that's emphasizing their natural shape or maximizing fruit production. We offer reasonable quarterly, biannual, and annual maintenance plans to keep your garden looking fresh. Do yourself a favor and don't let a hedge trimmer near a beautiful new shrub — only hedges should be pruned with hedge trimmers.

Some plants — camellias, Japanese maples, chamaecyparis, weeping cherries, and many others — look best with fine, detailed pruning. We specialize in caring for specimens like these to help them look their very best.
